Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are where they are for a reason.
Their first hit single “Thrift Shop" blew up because of media and society. It could’ve come across as corny, but it was catchy and entertaining (Something the media blows out of proportion and overplays until no end). Regardless, it’s an amazing song about consumerism and the way people conform to certain trends, and the desires to obtain high-end fashion. Macklemore himself claimed that it was a song idea he tossed around in ‘08. It was never meant to blow up, and to compensate for his title as “The Thrift Shop Guy” he promoted his more respectable songs “Same Love” and “Can’t Hold Us”. He shouldn’t be penalized for his fame.
